How To Apply for Social Security Disability Benefits

Generally, there are four ways to apply for social security disability benefits. Before applying for benefits, the first step is to find out if you qualify for benefits, and what type of benefits you are eligible for. You can get a free case evaluation by completing the form to the right. Once you determine that you are eligible for benefits you can choose one of the options below to apply for benefits.

  1. You can apply for benefits directly on the social security administration website.

  2. You can walk in to your local social security field office or district office.

  3. You can call your local social security field office or district office. Usually they will give you an appointment to come down to your local social security office and apply in person or they may start your application over the phone.

  4. You can get representation from either an attorney or disability advocate who will help you apply for benefits. Since up to 70% of initial applications are denied, there is a very good chance that you will end up needing representation for your claim eventually. An experienced professional will know how to avoid mistakes in the application that can delay or cause your claim to be denied. Upon receiving your free case evaluation using the form to the right, you can ask the disability advocate or attorney how you can benefit from help with your claim.
